Some Common Terms And Abbreviations In Satellite Installation And Their Meaning.

There are many forms of abbreviations and terms in satellite television installation, but I'm going to list the common ones for you.
I will start with;
1) TP or tp: This is the short form or abbreviation for "Transponder". The transponder consist of the frequency, polarization and the symbol rate. Most people call the transponder as frequency which is very wrong and misleading.

2) Freq: Short form of Frequency.

3) SR or sr: Short form of Symbol Rate.

4) Pol or pol: Short short for Polarization. This is either H, V,  L or R.

5) SAT: Short for Satellite.

6) SID: Abbreviation for Service ID.

7) APID: Abbreviation for Audio Packet Identifier.

8) VPID: Meaning, Video Packet Identifier.

9) FEC: Meaning, Forward Error Correction.

10) FTA: Meaning, Free To Air.

11)DVB: Meaning, Digital Video Broadcaster.

12) EPG: Meaning Electronic Programmes Guide.

13) INFO: Meaning Information.

14) DiSEqC:
Meaning, Digital Satellite Equipmen Control. You can see the image and the use of DiSEqC from my previous post on May 3 2018.

15) LNB or LNBf:
Meaning, Low Noise Block Converter feedhorn.

16) HD: Meaning, High Definition.

17) Scramble: Meaning, a scramble channel has a Dollar $ sign on it and it is normally locked.

18) MPEG:
Meaning, Moving Picture Expects Group.
